Eleazar Ley, M.D.

Clinical Instructor of Plastic Surgery

Dr. Eleazar Ley completed full general surgery training at the University of Arizona in sunny Tucson. His ambition and drive to succeed has led him to pursue subspecialty fellowships in various fields in plastic surgery. He first came to Salt Lake City to receive training in craniofacial and pediatric plastic surgery at Primary Children's Medical Center. He developed skills in the full breadth of cleft surgery, orthognathic surgery, cranial reconstruction, and ear reconstruction as well as treatments for other congenital anomalies. He then moved to Los Angeles, California to complete a hand and microsurgery fellowship at the University of Southern California. Much of his training was performed at the Southern California Orthopaedic Institute where techniques such as endoscopic carpal tunnel release, wrist and forearm fractures, wrist arthroscopy, and treatment of degenerative hand conditions were learned. Hand trauma and digit replantations were commonly treated at the Los Angeles County Hospital. He also received training in microsurgical reconstruction in breast oncologic reconstruction as well as extremity trauma salvage procedures using free tissue transfers. Both autologous and implant based reconstructions were performed as well as various types of free flaps for lower extremity limb-threatening injuries. These fellowships served as a strong platform to complete a general plastic and reconstructive surgery fellowship at the University of Utah. Prior to his surgical training, he began his medical school education in his native Mexico at the Universidad Autonoma de Guadalajara. He immigrated to the United States and finished medical school at New York Medical College in Valhalla.

He has made Utah his home and shares it with his lovely wife and two beautiful daughters. They enjoy the great outdoors and the family-centered community of Salt Lake City. His hobbies include cycling, hiking, reef aquariums, and fusion cooking.

Dr. Ley is fluent in Spanish and Chinese (Cantonese dialect)

Dr. Ley's broad clinical expertise allows him to provide comprehensive plastic and reconstructive care for both adults and children in our community. He has become one of the best trained plastic surgeons with multiple subspecialties within the field of plastic and reconstructive surgery. His artistic sense, attention to detail, and gentle demeanor complement his fine surgical skills in providing comprehensive plastic surgery care to both adults and children. He has joined the surgical staff at the University of Utah and assists in teaching medical students and the next generation of plastic surgeons.
